Campus & Community Outreach

CFI On Campus

Especially in North America, colleges and universities have become supermarkets of ideas; students are concerned merely with their careers and professions. The former liberal-arts curriculum has been watered down and students feel lost at sea. Meanwhile, fringe science and supernatural beliefs dominate the campus cultural scene. With this in mind, the Center for Inquiry has brought its message to campuses across North America and elsewhere, beginning in 1996 with the founding of the Campus Freethought Alliance (CFA).

CFA has now expanded into CFI On Campus, operating on hundreds of campuses across North America and in other areas of the world. CFI's campus outreach program sponsors a variety of campus-wide events each academic year, provides scholarships for students to attend national conferences, workshops and other hosted events, publishes an electronic newsletter entitled The Campus Inquirer, and provides student coordinators with organizing materials, leadership training, and programming support.

For more information, please visit CFI On Campus at www.campusinquirer.org.

In addition to the student activist and outreach movement, CSICOP's Inquiring Minds program provides materials and resources for faculty and education professionals, parents and other caregivers. CSICOP works with educators in developing curricular material on critical thinking, skepticism, and the application of science to interdisciplinary studies. A selection of this material is available online at www.inquiringminds.org.

CFI Communities

The Center for Inquiry assists community groups of rationalists, skeptics, and humanists around the world. CFI and its programs have helped to found such groups worldwide, develop exciting program and event line-ups, and work to build the movements further. Virtually all of these organizations are the product of local grass-roots secular humanist and skeptic movements. They draw upon volunteers and Center for Inquiry supporters and Friends who are enthusiastic about our agenda and wish to take part in our movement.

Center for Inquiry Branches have been founded in part to act as regional hubs for the professional support and training of the skeptical and secular humanist communities. In some cases, the community groups in a given region will work with the Center for Inquiry International to create a new branch serving their region. Initially supported through fundraising campaigns by the Center for Inquiry International, regional branches strive for financial independence by attracting Friends of the Center. Additionally, supporters in the United States and around the world can become involved in the Center for Inquiry movement in general by becoming a Friend of the Center at large.
